Battle Prep

This week marks the first in an eight-week training program I’m starting in preparation for my first 10K race at the end of March. Last night I went to Safeway and stocked up on healthy foods, meals and snacks to make sure I keep myself well-fueled as I up my exercise routine by a significant amount.

This morning I’m taking it easy with a yoga class at my local gym. Tomorrow I start the training program in earnest with a 1.5-mile run.

Is anyone else gearing up for spring marathoning? I would love to hear about your training program and what you’re doing to prepare you to do your best.

One of my biggest temptations is snacking on junk food at work. Fage yogurt with blueberries should stave off afternoon cravings.

I've been watching my eloctrolytes. Gatorade's low calorie G2 drink no longer uses HFCS, so I've added it back into my hydration mix 🙂

I never even considered watching my electrolytes! Good tip, I will have to look into integrating that into my diet over the next eight weeks. 🙂

Which 10k are you doing and what training program are you using? I've been thinking more and more about a half marathon!

Marie, I need to sign up for that 10K as well.

Cutting back on the alcohol (should be easy save for a friend's wedding in Vegas at the end of this month), greek yogurt (just as healthy but more filling), plus lots of organic food is my strategy. I'm doing 4 miles today but it won't be until later. You know me, late shift is what works best. 🙂

So right, Kara. I’m definitely cutting back on alcohol and investing in the Greek yogurt (yum and healthy!). Have fun on your run tonight! 🙂
