Clutter, Magazines, and the Beauty of Freedom Filer

I’m a long-time lover of magazines, and until recently had a huge collection of past issues of Lucky, Allure, InStyle and others cluttering up my apartment.

I’ve instituted a new rule: every time I get a new magazine, I rip out the pages I like, file them in a Freedom Filer folder I’ve set up, and recycle the rest of it. The paper clutter I’ve accumulated from magazines had become too much to bear, and I’m determined to keep magazine clippings to a minimum. There are some amazing finds I’ve gotten from magazines, so I can’t bear to part with the ripped-out pages. Thanks to my Freedom Filer, it is incredibly easy to file them away for easy reference. As my stacks of magazines continue diminishing, so does the lightness of my life.

p.s. I’ve ordered an Apple iPad that will be arriving today! It is my sincere hope that eventually I’ll be able to read all of my favorite magazines digitally without the fuss of a paper mess. One of the first apps I’ll be downloading is Zinio, which allows you to read digital versions of your favorite magazines. Can’t wait to start using it!

Another possibility is to scan them and upload to Evernote. Evernote has a 2-level hierarchy maximum though (notebooks and tags/metadata within them). It makes it perfect for this "a Fashion folder" but not so good for inventorying your home (something I found out).

But I am too lazy to do that right now. 🙂 Maybe someday once my paper is more manageable.
