Enjoying dinner in the Mission District of San FranciscoWe all want to live richer, more purposeful and rewarding lives, but sometimes inertia gets in the way. I want to experiment with my own life by mindfully simplifying everything I do, cutting out the clutter to get to the heart of my ideal existence.

Apple Walnut Salad
Summer is almost here in San Francisco, and with the arrival of warmer weather I always crave fresh, light meals that are simple to make. My mom’s apple walnut salad fit the bill nicely yesterday afternoon. Don’t freak out, but there’s mayonnaise involved (and that’s a good thing).
Butter Bean Salad
I recently stumbled across an amazing cooking blog, stonesoup, thanks to a guest post author Jules Clancy did on ZenHabits recently. One of her posts is about 20 quick and delicious salads you can make for a satisfying meal. I recently tried her butter bean salad recipe and it was delicious, filling, and completely healthy. I [...]

Girl Time at Magnolia Pub
Last week Kara and I went to Magnolia Pub for some girl time, a few tasty beers and good food. It’s always nice to have one-on-one time with girlfriends, and I thoroughly enjoyed the night out. We were both snapping away with our Nikon DSLR cameras and I caught quite a few pictures that I’m [...]
Oatmeal with Celery: A Crunchy Breakfast Treat
Another winner from my favorite food columnist, Mark Bittman: oatmeal with chopped celery, flavored with a few splashes of soy sauce and sesame seed oil. I tried it for myself and it was delicious! See the results below.

Happy Hour Bliss
Terry and I decided to head to Coco500 for Happy Hour libations after work today. What a treat. Enjoying a drink and fine food with your significant other is a distinctly glorious, yet simple, pleasure.

Indulging in Tasty BBQ
There’s nothing wrong with throwing your healthy eating habits out the window for a night and enjoying a tasty feast of amazing BBQ. That’s exactly what I did last Saturday night when a group of my friends at the SXSWi conference in Austin decided to make the trek to The Salt Lick for some of its [...]
The Beauty of a Simple Salad
After a weekend full of rich, tasty brunch, Sunday night left me feeling a bit bloated and craving something light and refreshing for dinner. As a result of my exploration of a healthier lifestyle courtesy of The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan, I stumbled across Mark Bittman’s book, Food Matters, and his New York Times [...]

A New Love Affair with Produce
While I was running at Crissy Field last weekend I picked up a book on produce at the Warming Hut gift shop. The Field Guide to Produce is a small, colorful book that fits nicely in your hand and seems like a perfect little reference guide to have handy while shopping for fresh fruits and [...]

Brunch, the Ultimate Weekend Reward
Over last weekend I went running on Saturday and Sunday at Crissy Field in the Presidio of San Francisco. The weather was gorgeous, and all total I logged about 10 miles of exercise. As a reward for devoting our weekend mornings to the pursuit of rigorous activity, my friends and I decided brunch was the [...]
