Enjoying dinner in the Mission District of San FranciscoWe all want to live richer, more purposeful and rewarding lives, but sometimes inertia gets in the way. I want to experiment with my own life by mindfully simplifying everything I do, cutting out the clutter to get to the heart of my ideal existence.

Used Up
I love using what I own, down to the the very last drop. There is something so satisfying about looking at an empty bottle or jar, and knowing that you squeezed every last smidge of value out of a product.

Clutter Makes Me Angry!
For the past two and a half years, I have been moving toward a minimalist lifestyle. I thought I was making solid progress. Until I moved out of my apartment at the beginning of this year and realized how much crap I still have in my life.

Fleas and Fly Ladies
A few weeks back I was covered in more than a half-dozen flea bites that itched like crazy. It made sleeping hell as I woke up multiple times throughout the night to itch my wounds, and only now are they gone. I am blaming the compost bin and me not cleaning the kitchen often enough. [...]

Inspiration on the Bus
Earlier this week when I was on the bus, I sat across from a girl who seemed to epitomize calm, the kind of calm I hope to grasp myself someday. Impeccably dressed in a seersucker blazer, denim floods, and fancy grey suede flats, every detail was in place, from her stylish aviator sunglasses to the [...]

First Impressions of Freedom Filer
A few nights ago I set up my Freedom Filer system, and I couldn’t be happier with the results so far. I was able to put everything together in a few hours, and once the system was in place, I felt like a huge weight of clutter had been lifted from my shoulders.

Attacking Paper Clutter with Freedom Filer
I just received my packet from Freedom Filer, a ready-made filing system that is meant to streamline the process of maintaining important paper-based files. Since I’m trying to eliminate as much of my paper clutter as possible and keep it to just the basics, this program appealed to me, especially since it came highly recommended [...]

Clean as You Go
I’ve found that it is far easier to clean as I go than it is to wait until a bunch of cleaning tasks have accumulated. It’s really easy to understand why when I break it down. A few minutes hanging up my clothes here, a second or two putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher there, and [...]
